Hundreds of Austin residents are living outside or are stranded indoors without water/power/heat/gas or shelter from the elements in this historic disaster. Help us get them indoors and safe, fed daily and with the supplies they need for as long as they need!
>>>> We are providing emergency services for ALL residents of the Austin area - starting with the most vulnerable <<<<
These are the major stages we have progressed through so far (beyond the many side and smaller projects)
[Stage 0 started Mid-March 2020: Providing fresh warm food, supplies, social service information and resources to the 2500 unhoused residents of Austin seven days a week - as well as many low income families and those in need]
Starting with the winter storm:
Stage 1 started Saturday 2/13/2021: Getting unhoused people off the streets and into hotels [or any warm place]: so far we've set up in hotels and sheltered areas approximately 500 unhoused people and growing
Stage 2 started Sunday 2/14/2021: Providing cooked food, toiletries, clothing and other supplies to the people we put up in hotels and other spaces
Stage 3 started 2/15/2021: Locating the most vulnerable, the elderly, people with medical or special needs, and families with young children, and providing housing [hotels or other], food and supplies - many of these people are stranded in homes with no power and/or gas and/or water and/or heat
We have a main distribution hub downtown accepting donations - this is where many of our drivers pick up cooked food, toiletries, clothing and other supplies at 207 W 4th - due to Covid-19 do not stop by unless you are delivering donated goods - see our IG for info on what to donate

Who we are:
We are Austin Mutual Aid! We work together with the unhoused and recently unhoused and people from many walks of life to provide aid for low income and unhoused people in the Austin area. We adhere to anti-racist and proLGBTQ+ principals. We are part of ATX Camp Support (https://www.facebook.com/stopsweepsatx/ Stop the Sweeps, https://www.facebook.com/groups/1043810232661482/ Austin Mutual Aid , https://www.facebook.com/Primrose-Community-Care-101420724830565/ Primrose Community Care , https://www.facebook.com/AustinFoodNotBombs/ Austin Food Not Bombs and others) which has built relationships with homeless encampments throughout Austin by providing regular meals since the Covid-19 crisis began.
Consider what trying to go through your daily errands would be like while living outdoors in the element with little to no water? Now consider having a tent, a warm sleeping bag, and clean drinking water. It would make a day that much more possible to live.
The unhoused population includes many older people, people of color and people with health complications, who are all at higher risk for Covid-19. Washing hands and masks is nearly impossible. The city is lagging far behind in adequate protection for these communities.
This really is America's growing refugee crisis. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by homelessness. It seems like these people need huge change in their lives, so what will a few bucks or some drinking water do when they need a home, a job and social services? Everything. I promise you. If we can supply clean drinking water and a sleeping bag to a camp it can save lives. A person that isn't struggling to barely survive can do so much more for themselves.
Photo is of Mama Red wearing three levels of cat print! She's a pillar of her community, always sharing resources and collecting needs requests from other residents of her camp to pass on to groups like ours. Your donation can exponentially grow, by supporting individuals like her as she supports so many others.
