Military & Media:Quantico to Bogotá

Hello Everyone!
When I am not pretending to be a Nike fit-model, most of my time is spent being a full-time student at Syracuse University. Although I’ve spent the last three years in Upstate New York, my three thousand mile journey from the rainy city of Seattle has been worth the pursuit of a Television Radio Film degree, with a specialization in Sport Management, from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
After graduation in 2017, I plan to commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I’m certain that my military involvement will help me improve my leadership skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to perform in high stakes situations. All of which are transferable skills to the media industry. Following the military, I aim to apply my resources so that I may become a pioneer in the media market that is blossoming in the Emerald City.
With that being said, it is with the utmost eagerness and humility that I share my plans for the summer of 2016:
The first half of the summer will be spent in Quantico, Virginia where I will further my journey in the Officer Candidate process. The mission of Officer Candidates School (OCS) is to educate and train officer candidates in Marine Corps knowledge and skills within a controlled, challenging, and chaotic environment IOT evaluate and screen individuals for the leadership, moral, mental, and physical qualities required for commissioning as a Marine Corps officer.
Following this training, the second half of my summer will be spent in Bogotá, Colombia. I have accepted an internship with Lulo Films, one of the top media companies in Colombia. This work experience will afford me the opportunity to network with established professionals in my industry who have collaborated with Discovery Channel and National Geographic. Furthermore, my direct supervisor has strong relations with the Colombian military, which will allow me to make critical comparisons to the military agency I hope to someday be apart of.
The contributions made to this campaign will assist me with the following:
-Program fees associated with my (unpaid) internship
-Travel expenses (i.e. passport, flights, immunizations)
-Additional travel to neighboring countries
I cannot adequately express, how much I value the hard work that goes into a dollar. As a full-time student, I work two jobs in addition to any training or extra-curricular activities I participate in. Your graciousness will allow me more time and energy to prepare myself for my departure to OCS, without stressing about the financial obligations associate with the latter half of my summer.
