On August 10th, my grandparents’ home of over 40 years was hit by a devastating flood. They have lived in this house since 1984, building a lifetime of memories — including the bittersweet one of my grandpa passing away there in June of this year.

Tragically, they have no flood insurance, and their homeowner’s insurance will not cover any of the damage. Everything they’ve worked so hard for is now underwater — the basement is completely destroyed, with furniture, personal belongings, and irreplaceable memories lost.

In the middle of the chaos, my Uncle Donny saved my grandma’s life. He was trapped in his basement bedroom as water poured in, but managed to climb through the egress window — the same one water was flooding through — to get to her and bring her to safety.

Now, my grandparents are left with the overwhelming cost of repairing their home, replacing what was lost, and making it livable again. We are doing everything we can as a family, but the cost is far beyond what we can handle alone.
