Tracy's Walk
Donation protected
My name is Tracy Danzey. I am a 40 year old wife, mother, nurse, and active resident of Jefferson County, West Virginia, USA. I am a victim of an industrial poisoning that occurred during my childhood in West Virginia. I have survived the effects of the poisoning - thyroid failure and bone cancer, but my leg and hip were amputated secondary to the bone cancer that I suffered. Now I stand on one leg and use forearm crutches to ambulate.
It's with this remaining leg and these forearm crutches that I will walk across Denmark. I will walk 100 kilometers, shore to shore, across Denmark’s Zealand island, Kalendborg to Copenhagen, to bear painful witness to the Danish people of the injustice happening here in West Virginia, as Rockwool (a Danish insulation company) tries to turn my home into a sacrifice zone with its proposed highly polluting factory. The Danish people and government are the world’s leaders in environmental protection and innovative environmental solutions. I believe that they do not intend to export their pollution here, and I ask for their leadership and protection.
I will walk because I must . . . as a mother. I will walk because I am forced to protect my child from the same crimes that victimized me. I will walk for ALL victims of Rockwool and industrial poisoning. I will walk for the planet and our innate right to a stable climate. I will walk in the American tradition meant to wake the people to injustices that require remediation. I will walk to DEMAND that the health and well-being of ALL, supersedes the profits of the few.
(Tracy's walk will unfold in October and we are currently collecting resources within and outside of our community to fund this walk. We ask for your support. Any amount will help and be greatly appreciated. If you are able to donate miles or points, we are also accepting these donations. Please contact me directly if you are able to do this or would like to discuss ways to make your donation tax deductible.)
