Latanya’s Road to Recovery from Maternal Sepsis

Who this will help
Hi my name is Deborah. I started this gofundme to help my sister Latanya. Who gave birth to a beautiful baby boy name Noah. However, the events that followed her delivery have been nothing short of a tragedy.

My sister Latanya suffered Maternal Sepsis, which is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in the United States. This condition often goes unnoticed due to gaps in medical training. Despite my sister’s proactive efforts to communicate her distress both before and after giving birth, her concerns were overlooked, leading to suboptimal maternal care. In a dire state, her husband rushed her to Loma Linda University Hospital in California, seeking the urgent care she desperately needed.

Upon arrival at Loma Linda University Hospital, Latanya was swiftly admitted and diagnosed with sepsis. She underwent emergency surgery and subsequently had to be placed on a ventilator in the ICU. At this point, her heart was functioning at a mere 20%. Compounding her critical condition, she also developed an upper respiratory infection known as RSV. We firmly believe that the delay in her initial diagnosis significantly contributed to the severity of her current condition.

In the days and weeks that followed, Latanya’s husband/family demanded explanations from the previous medical staff of what happened. But the answers received on how it occurred are sparse and confusing.

Why I'm fundraising
The primary goal of this fundraiser is to provide Latanya and her family with much-needed stability. After an extended hospital stay, Latanya’s heart is functioning at only 40%. She will now require permanent disability support and ongoing medication. Her husband, Luther, is dedicating his time to care for his wife and children. This commitment has significantly impacted their income, leading to mounting bills. Despite our collective efforts to support them, the financial strain is overwhelming. Asking for help is never easy, but our faith has guided us to reach out. We are deeply appreciative of any assistance offered and eternally grateful for your support.

Latanya

Latanya is a remarkable mother, hard worker and a survivor of breast cancer at an early age. A true survivor, we know if anyone can make a turn around it will be her. I love you sister, we love you. You will get through this, The Most High will see you through.

The impact of your support
The funds will go directly to Helping Latanya and Luther’s financial burdens. Rent, utilities, medical bills and therapy Latanya needs on her road to recovery.
