My name is Crystal Schain and I am privileged to be telling this story that Danny Henricks shared with me and others about an employee that goes above and beyond! Danny is a Smart & Final store manager and the story is about an associate that works for him and his name is Keyon Wilson. A few of us know from experience that an associate like Keyon doesn't come around to often so we knew we needed to do something to help him out for being such a helpful associate. Please read and share his story and do whatever you can to give.
By the way, Keyon is the nephew of Wanda Colon a long time Smart & Final associate, and lives with the same values.
Keyon lives in Perris California and commutes 40 miles round trip to get to work. He never hesitates to take a shift for 4 hours or 8 hours, he takes whatever he can get or do what needs to be done for the good of the store. Keyon lives with his mother and takes care of her and is the chief provider in his household. He always scrambling for shifts to get them some extra money.
Danny quotes "In the 4 years that I have been working with Keyon he has missed a total of 2 shifts due to illness which Keyon said he would come in if I could not cover the shift. He has never asked me for any days off and will work every holiday."
What is remarkable about this story is that Keyon does this and does not own a vehicle, you see, his car broke down a couple of years ago. Keyon saved $1,500 to buy another car and the one he purchased lasted one day. It blew up and the person he purchased it from told him it was "as is" and he was out the money.
Danny said that Keyon gets to work by taking the bus that some times takes 2 hours one way. Another way Keyon gets to work is by purchasing an Uber and is sometimes more that he makes in his shift, or relying on the kindness of other associates to give him a ride.
Keyon is always upbeat, has a positive attitude, a sense of humor and brightens the day of associates and customers.
Most associates are humored by Keyon's impression of Danny.
So for all the giving Keyon has done, we would like to get him a car. Something good an reliable to get him around and make his life a little easier. Danny quotes "He deserves it".
