Kaitlyn and Kevin Blowers welcomed their sweet baby girl, Sophie Leona on Sunday, December 20th. Much earlier than expected.
After a rapid and sudden onset of preeclampsia, Kaitlyn experienced a grand-mal seizure and needed to be airlifted to Abbott for an emergency c-section. Their small, but mighty, Sophie made her entrance into this world in a fast and furious fashion. She weighed in at 2lbs, 3oz.
Sophie is a spitfire and is making strides. There will be many milestones, both big and small, as she makes her way from micro-preemie to come-home day. For perspective, her little head is about the size of a lemon. It’s hard to even comprehend.
Kaitlyn is still in the hospital as well, she’s managing the after effects of preeclampsia and is getting stronger each day. She’s expected to be discharged next week.
As you can imagine, the journey will be long for Kaitlyn, Kevin and Sophie. The medical bills will be as high as mountains and the miles traveled will circle the globe. Of course all worth it to get that sweet baby girl strong and healthy enough to come home.
We are raising money to help with medical bills, gas money and the additional time Kaitlyn and Kevin may need to be out of work. Because of COVID-19 family members outside of Sophie‘s parents are not allowed into the NICU. This puts a lot of pressure on Kaitlyn and Kevin to be there as much as they possibly can.
As a nurse Kaitlyn has cared for so many people, and while it’s hard for her to accept, it’s time for us to take care of her. We appreciate any pennies from heaven you can share with Kaitlyn, Kevin and Sophie.
