Kerri & Sam's Trek to EBC for ICS
Donation protected
We have decided to ‘trek for life’ in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Cancer has affected so many of us and unfortunately, three years ago my dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer of the Duodenum. A mass that was estimated to have been growing for 8 years undetected despite regular check-ups. Three weeks later he lost his battle. Duodenal cancer is a rare form and unfortunately for most goes undetected until it has progressed significantly. As this form of cancer is rare, information can be difficult to find, something that we hope will change with much needed funds that we hope to raise on our 'trek for life'.
This has inspired us to book our biggest challenge to date, climbing Everest base camp on my dad’s fourth anniversary. Grief is an uncontrollable aspect of life. By taking on both a physically and mentally challenging task is in a way taking control and doing something positive while hopefully helping other families in similar situations.
We will be departing Dublin for Nepal on the 5th of September and the trek will take 18 days in total reaching a total height of 5364m. Hiking is a new experience for us as we wanted to really challenge ourselves but are excited for the year ahead, hopefully will be able to raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
With that said we are so grateful for any donations #Wewontgiveupuntilcancerdoes
