Kerala, India Flood Relief

Kerala, the state I come from in India, is experiencing unprecedented flooding. It has caused vast damage to human lives and infrastructure. Thousands of homes are destroyed and many people have lost their lives. Every single dam in the state has been opened for the first time. This kind of devastation has never happened.

Kerala, famously known as “Gods own county” arguable attracts the most number of tourists in India. It is known for its lush greenery, backwaters, house boats and amazing hospitality. Growing up, every summer vacation used to be in Kerala. My entire family lives there and that is a lot of people.

My parents are safe and so are my immediate relatives because luckily that part of Kerala is not flooding. When I see some videos, pictures and people talking about the devastation, it gets me very emotional. I can’t just sit here and do nothing.

I am seeking out your help in helping the people who have been affected by this. Two of my friends and I have come up with a plan.
Our plan is to raise $50,000 in next 90 days. Once the rain settles down and the media leaves, my friends, will personally go to the affected area, assess the situation and use the funds directly, without any middle men. They will collect proof of how the money was utilized and I will share it with all of you. These could be receipts of supplies that were purchased or testimonials directly from those who received the funds.

Here are some examples of how the funds will be utilized

1)     Repair of damaged houses (Very little homes in India have home Insurance)

2)     Restoring drinking water and sanitation in villages

3)     Reconstructing schools

4)     Reconstructing hospitals

5)     Providing some financial relief to the family members who lost an earning member.

I am personally contributing $5,000 to this cause.

I could have gone through Chief Ministers relief fund but there is nothing like knowing that the funds you trusted me with, went to the right recipient. To see their reaction as they receive this aid. To directly make a small impact to someone’s life but in a significant way. If I could, I would have gone myself but I think I can make a bigger impact with this effort.

Every single time I have done fundraising either for American Cancer Society or Haiti victims, you have helped me. Once again, I need your support here. This is very personal.

Without the help of these people, I would not be here. I would not have shared those moments of joy with you.

So, Please join me in this effort in rebuilding God’s one country.
