Hello my name is Evelyn. In June of this year I am privileged to have the opportunity of going to Naning'oi girl's primary boarding school in Kenya, with Plumpton College. The school acts not just as an education center but also as a recovery and safe space for young girls who have been victims of FGM, child marriage and so much more unimaginable life changing events. The school provides support and care for these young girls who have no one else to turn to, as well as providing them an opportunistic future with their education.
The school was founded in 1999 and was free at the time, being funded by the government. But after time the Kenyan government stopped funding the school and it was no longer free. Charities and organisations such the Plumpton College have stepped into provide for the school in so many ways, previously installing water tanks, solar system, electric fences, 2 netball courts and supplies like feminine hygiene products, clothes and musical instruments. The main aims for the 2025 trip include creating an outdoor wash basin, extension on the kitchen, installation of fencing and assisting in the classrooms.
It's an opportunity I would forever regret if I missed out and I can't wait to meet the girls, providing my help the best I can. Naning'oi does incredible work which shouldn't go unrecognised, these girls have gone through unimaginable things. Places like Naning'oi girls school give girls their life back.
