KENYA VOLUNTEER 2026!
Donation protected
In July 2026, I will be joining a team from Harton Sixth Form on a two-week expedition to Kenya in East Africa. The trip is connected to community development through Moving Mountains, the charitable arm of Adventure Alternative, a social enterprise founded by Gavin Bate in 1991 that uses tourism to generate wealth and positive change, you can find out more information about the amazing work Adventure Alternative do by following this link. It is a strong example of Fair Trade Volunteering, ensuring our efforts contribute meaningfully and sustainably. Our team will be working in Embu, Eastern Kenya, alongside Gilbert Njeru at a Rescue Centre for street children, as well as supporting local primary schools including Embu County, Urban Primary, and the rural Gatwe Primary School on the lower slopes of Mount Kenya. We’ll also coach the local Black Cats football team and spend valuable time with street children visiting the rescue centre. As part of the adventure, we aim to climb Mount Kenya (4,985m), the second-highest mountain in Africa, followed by a stay on the banks of Lake Naivasha where we’ll take part in a boat safari and a cycle safari through Hell’s Gate National Park. We’ll then trek up the extinct volcano Mount Suswa, staying with a Masai tribe, before exploring Kibera in Nairobi. To make this incredible experience possible, each participant must raise over £2,500. As a group, my school and I are undertaking various fundraising activities to help cover the cost. So far, we’ve completed a 26-mile coastal walk and hosted an Easter Bingo event where families from across South Tyneside paid a small fee to enter—half of the money raised went to the winner, and the rest was shared among the team. We have more fundraising plans underway, and I’ll be updating my page regularly with our progress. Any contribution towards helping me reach my fundraising goal would be greatly appreciated—thank you so much for your support.
