My mom and I rescued Kelev at 5 weeks old. He became our heartbeat. During her 6-month battle with cancer, he never left her side. When she took her last breath, Kelev and I were curled up with her. Since losing her, he's been my only anchor. We grieved as survivors of the same great love. Named Kelev (Hebrew for dog), he is "all heart" and my last living link to the family we built.

After my Mom’s death, I lost my childhood home. Kelev and I stayed in 3 different hotels, and he made each one a home for us. At night he would forgo his dog bed to sleep against me, his breathing my lullaby. He always kept my spirits up, especially when he would dance when you give him a scratch on his lower back. He treats his stuffed animals as his own babies, often putting them in his food bowl to share.

His body can’t digest most food and he needs several medications regularly to keep him healthy and alive. Sturbridge Veterinary Specialty, have likened his condition as something like a Crohn’s disease in humans. He has problems with his entire digestive system and is on prescription food and three regular medications a month. Several urgent trips due to vomiting and diarrhea has become the norm.

Losing Kelev because I can’t continue to financially support his manageable illnesses is beyond anything I can imagine. The pain of losing my mom would rival the pain of putting Kelev down when he can have a normal life with the right care. He’s a happy 7 year old dog.

I not only love and adore Kelev but medically he takes care of me. Just 4 months after my Mom died I started having seizures and vision issues. 2 contradictory MRI’s followed one normal the other showing a 2mm tumor near my optic nerve. Kelev isn’t trained yet he somehow has the ability to know when I am going to have a seizure and that allows me to get somewhere safe to lay down. I suppose he’s been taking care of me since losing my mom more than I have been taking care of him. I can’t fathom failing him along with losing him.
