Hi Everyone
My name is Jenny and I'm a single parent with two children aged 15 and 5. I'm setting this gofund me page hoping to raise some money towards purchasing a special "safe sleeper bed " for my ASD non verbal daughter Bella-Mae who is 5 years old. This is so she can be kept secure and feel safe enough to fall asleep happily in her "tiny" bedroom. Bella-Mae has a development learning age of 9 to 12 months with no danger awareness!.
In her own bed she constantly gets herself trapped between the bedguard and mattress even after I've resettled her numerous times through the night montioring her on the baby camera. This still has an enormous effect on the amount of sleep she receives. This has been having a terrible impact on her time at home and main stream nursery school where she was placed last September instead of the reception class.
For a year now I've been contacting numerous charities who try to help parents fiance "special equipment " for SEND children. Most of them were willing to assist me towards the cost but explained I would need to acquire occupational therapist to come and approve the bed. Unfortunately due to Bella-Maes high Sensory needs, this is something they are not able to take on board even after her paediatrician refered her twice. I have also contacted the local council and spoke to numerous departments, even the children's disability team to ask if they could assist me, unfortunately they couldn't!
I have been extremely lucky to be able to trial one of these beds for a week from "Murrays Medical Company"on an emergency basis. Originally Steven the Northern Area Manager of the company had placed me on a long waiting list for a trial. After informing him that Bella had started falling out of bed several times injuring herself. He decided that I needed to trial the bed urgently!
To my astonishment she started to show me that she wanted to go to her bedroom to climb into the "special bed" something she would have never done before. Resulting in her falling asleep very quickly and staying alseep much longer. This bed has finally prevented her from falling out injuring herself.
I have been very fortunate to be allowed to use the bed longer as I first thought thanks to Steven ringing me on 13th June.
Unfortunately the trial is coming to an end on the 26th June, I fear for her safety again and the very few hours of sleep she will be receiving. I feel this is going to upset & confuse Bella-Mae very much as she will not understand where her "special bed" has gone. I feel I need to try and raise this money as soon as possible.
Since using the bed Bella-Mae has been able to stay awake more at home and at school, has been a much happier little girl with her teachers, 1 to 1 assistant commenting on the difference.
I can't thank everyone enough who has taken their time to read Bella-Mae's story donating small and large amounts has touched my heart enormously.
Well the day I've been dreading has finally arrived. Earlier this morning Bella-Mae's "special bed" that I've been allowed to trial for over two weeks has been dismantled and taken away. I didnt expect to feel so emotional but the thought of my daughter back in her old bed unsafe has torn my heart apart. Its going to be so difficult as I can't explain to Bella-Mae where her bed has gone! I'm feeling extremely anxious and nervous how this is going to effect my little girl not having her "safe space"anymore where she feels calm, safe and secure to go to sleep peacefully.I will of course be checking on her every few hours making sure she hasnt trapped herself between the bed guard and mattress, or even worse falling out of bed.As she can't communicate to me when she's trapped or hurt.
I'm so so grateful to everyone who is donating means the absolute world to me knowing that people do care about her.
Since the trial bed has been picked up Bella-Mae has unfortunately gone back to how she use to be but far worse she's not settling at night resulting in her thrashing around not being able to get comfy and feel secure in her surroundings. Bella-Mae can't seem to Self regulate like she could in the "special bed".
