Support the grassroots community keeping the weekly Sacred Fires burning at Christie Pits Park--led by Cree Firekeeper Johnny Moore.
The weekly fires provide a safe, welcoming and accessible space to provide key grassroots services to the urban Indigenous community as well as settler allies, including:
- Counselling, prayers, medicines and support for First Nations, Inuit and Métis
- peoples
- A place for people to learn about our teachings, history and community
- Ceremony and spirit for grieving and healing
- Support for those who did not return and survivors of Indian Residential Schools
Cree Firekeeper Johnny Moore and the GTA Every Child Matters Community have been hosting weekly Sacred Fires and open gatherings since May 29, 2021, when news of the 215 unmarked graves outside of Kamloops, British Columbia came to light, in order to honor and repatriate the lost children as well as provide support for residential school and survivors and those suffering from intergenerational trauma.
Donations will go to support the weekly fires in Christie Pits Park throughout the spring, summer and fall season. Funds will go to:
$250/week honorariums for fire-keepers
$30/week for food and water
$30/week for wood
$500 for a fall solstice celebration
Through sharing our awareness and knowledge we can change the root causes of colonialism and the effects on our nations across Turtle Island. People are power, we have the ability within ourselves and when we combine our voices to make that change happen.
Every body is welcome to attend the weekly fires on Sundays 2PM-7 PM
