Keep Groton’s Story in Print — Help Write the Next Chapter
For over 143 years, The Groton Independent has told the story of our community — one week at a time.
We’ve covered your kids’ games, school events, city meetings, businesses, and milestones. We’ve worked to preserve the history of Groton as it happens — for today and for future generations.
But today, it’s becoming harder to keep a small-town newspaper going.
Printing, postage, supplies, and operating costs continue to rise, while advertising revenue continues to decline.
We want to be clear:
We are not asking for help to pay ourselves — we both work full-time jobs outside the newspaper.
We are asking for help to cover the basic costs of keeping the paper going — printing, postage, insurance, equipment, and website expenses.
When a local newspaper disappears, a community loses more than news — it loses its record, its connection, and its voice. And once it’s gone, it rarely comes back.
If The Groton Independent has ever covered your family, your business, or your community — we ask you to consider helping us continue that mission.
Every donation, no matter the size, goes directly toward keeping your hometown newspaper in print and online.
Thank you for supporting local journalism.
