Ariesfirebomb (he/they) has been an inspiration and a safe space to me. I saw the magic of their talent before even knowing them. On their dance floor, I saw -for the first time in my life- a place of uninhibited queer expression.
Since coming to Minnesota in 2020, I felt that proper safety for my Black GNC identity wasn’t possible. I’d been hurt so badly by institutions and predators. Yet, Aries showed me the power of authenticity and advocacy through their DJing.
In their sets, I saw queer folx finding kinship in the rhythm of music that our ancestors created. I saw Black people releasing the weight of racism from work, home, and school through dance and camaraderie. I saw an oasis in the midst of a bar that was never made for us, something I’d been craving for a long time.
I also know that this is also true for many other trans, queer, and black folx who have heard an Ariesfirebomb set. Even though Saloon is riddled with racism, transphobia, and fatphobia, Aries’ magic was what made that space beautiful and bearable to me.
Now that Aries is no longer at the Saloon because of the racist threats from their CFO. I wanted to start this fundraiser on their behalf to help supplement the income that he would have made from the Saloon. Suppose you were planning to go to the Saloon. In that case, I ask that you instead donate that money directly to your favorite DJ’s favorite DJ.
