Hi everyone,
My name is Dana Taylor, and I’m raising funds to help my sister, Selena Taylor, while she stays in Omaha, Nebraska to be by our mother’s bedside during hospice.
Our mother had been living in Puerto Rico, but after her cancer returned, her health declined and she needed to come back to Omaha for care and family support. Selena stepped up in a big way—she traveled to Puerto Rico, helped bring our mother back home, and has returned to Omaha three additional times since March 2025 to make sure our mom was not alone during the hardest part of this journey.
On Selena’s most recent trip, she arrived on December 15 and has remained in Omaha ever since. She has been staying at or near The Josie Harper Residence so she can be present day and night—helping, advocating, and simply being there with love during our mother’s final chapter.
Selena is a teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has already used all of her paid leave, and she is currently using FMLA. While FMLA protects her job, it does not provide a paycheck—and she is now staying in Omaha without pay.
We’re asking for help to relieve the financial burden so Selena can remain with our mother without being forced to choose between supporting herself and supporting our mom.
In addition, when the time comes, there will be an unavoidable expense to return to Puerto Rico to recover our mother’s property and finalize her affairs. We’re trying to prepare for that responsibility now, so we aren’t scrambling later during an already difficult time.
How donations will be used
Funds will go toward:
Lost wages and basic living expenses
Travel costs between Cincinnati and Omaha (past and any necessary future trips)
Future travel to Puerto Rico to recover our mother’s property and finalize her affairs
Any unexpected expenses that come with an extended hospice stay
If you’re able to donate, thank you. If you can’t, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Your support helps keep Selena at our mother’s side—where she belongs—during this time.
With gratitude,
Dana Taylor
