For more than 20 years, Rogue Rock Gym has served as a gathering place for Southern Oregon’s climbing community. It has been a space where friendships formed, people gained confidence and skill, and families found connection.

Today, Rogue Rock Gym is facing a tough financial reality. During COVID, the gym took on debt in order to remain open and continue serving the community. Over the past two years, servicing that debt, combined with rising operating costs, has placed unsustainable pressure on the business. As of last week, Rogue Rock Gym was forced to suspend operations due to accumulated financial obligations.

Here’s the plan: The gym is actively pursuing a potential transition to new ownership that will recapitalize the business and address existing liabilities, and position it for long-term sustainability. That transition takes time, and to complete it, the gym needs a short-term financial bridge. We are working toward a $40,000 bridge to stabilize operations.

Says owner Matt Lambert, “This week has been humbling. I take responsibility for where we are, and I’m committed to doing this the right way. The funds raised here will go directly toward rent and payroll in order to re-open while we work quickly toward a new chapter for the gym.”

The $40,000 goal covers:

- Three months of rent required by the landlord

- Payroll to bring staff back to work

- Immediate operating expenses needed to reopen.

Though this isn’t a long-term solution, it will allow the gym time to find it. If this goal is met, the gym hopes to reopen while ownership transition discussions move forward over the next 60 days.

The intended outcome is a clean transfer of ownership to buyers committed to strengthening the gym’s financial foundation, investing in improvements, and protecting the culture that makes Rogue Rock Gym special.

We’ve seen that the community deeply values this space, and your support is making this bridge possible.

We will provide regular updates as this transition progresses.
