Hello Folks,
My name is “Pate! do you got…”.
I’m a middle school teacher in San Francisco.
I teach math. I case manage. I run a lunch club. All day long I hear “Pate, do you got food?”, “Pate, do you got a charger?”, “Pate, can I use a computer?”, “Pate, can I do my work in here?”, “Pate, can I get a bandaid?”, “Pate, you got water?”, “Pate you open for lunch?” “Pate, bro, can you talk to them please?”
Everyday.
For 11 years lol
and it’s fine….really. I don’t mind. I enjoy being able to help. I enjoy teaching. I enjoy learning. I know they’re going to forget my name mostly as soon as they leave for high school and it doesn’t matter because at the end of the day, I know that I’m helping a bunch of kids get through middle school in one piece.
So I keep a clean room for them. I scavenge and salvage furniture for them. I keep snacks for them. I try to keep water for them. We keep bandaids and first aid stuff. There’s board games and video games for lunch. I keep my loaner computers in good order so even other teachers can send kids to use them if need be. I keep the oldest iPads on earth alive so we can still do our video tutorial projects but all this comes at a cost. I have my own 2 kids at home and they need things too.
So here I am. Asking you to help me keep it going for my classroom.
The main things I want to get are:
1. An iPad to replace my old district one. They aren’t providing these anymore. I use it to present to the class and to parents in meetings, workout problems in front of the class, help students remotely via zoom.
2. a set of 5 iPads for students to use in class and during lunch club.
3. A better short throw projector because our old one doesn’t have enough lumens to see well (it’s mounted right next to the window and I can’t move it)
4. Kid food. Water. Nutrients that keep them from trying to fast all week long in protest of school lunch.
