As most of you know, Owen is not biologically related to us. Winston and I were supposed to just babysit to help his mother out and that led to him coming to us at a week old and he hasn't left since. When Owen was 7.5 months old she signed custody of Owen over to us and he is now 5. For 5 years he has been our world as we have been his.
In that time his visits with his mother were sporadic at best, but we always maintained that he should have a relationship with her and went out of our way to insure this. Depending on her current relationship was what determined her desire to see him. About a year and a half ago she met someone who wanted a family and so her visits became consistent. She now sees him every weekend and yet he has not adjusted well to being away from his Nana and Papa. He has behavior issues upon returning and it usually takes a day or two to see the amazing little boy we have raised. We have put him in therapy to help with the adjustment but as of yet it has not helped.
Last night we were served with custody papers, she wants to remove Owen from the only family he has ever consistently known. She is not taking into consideration just what that would do to my sweet sensitive boy and how detrimental it would be to his emotional and mental health!
I went to the lawyers today and this case will cost around 5k and we need half upfront. Winston and I are on a very fixed income and we have poured everything we have into our farm and raising this amazing boy. I have stoped all of our monthly extras and even though it breaks my heart..all of our adventuring so we can fight to keep Owen where he belongs, but it's just not enough. If you find it in your heart to help us we would be forever grateful and if you can't financially help that's okay say a prayer for Owen and our family.
