Mac and Tuck, our resident river otters, require daily, uninterrupted care—specialized food, constant habitat cleaning, enrichment, and trained staff on site every day. These needs cannot be postponed, reduced, or delayed. The animals depend on us completely.
At the same time, our Museum is facing rising operating expenses, including not only animal care but also utilities, insurance, and staffing. As a small community museum in a rural area, we do not have substantial financial reserves to absorb such increases, especially when experiencing seasonal dips in attendance.
The Delmarva Discovery Museum has been a place where the Eastern Shore comes to learn, explore, and feel connected—to our waterways, our wildlife, and each other. Located in the heart of Pocomoke City, our Museum serves local families, school groups, and visitors who may otherwise have little access to hands-on science education and live animal experiences.
Without additional funding now, we risk having to make difficult decisions that would adversely affect our operating hours, staffing, and ability to maintain the high standard of care that our animals deserve. Acting now allows us to stay ahead of those challenges—keeping the museum operating, our staff employed, and our otters healthy and thriving.
Every donation made through this fundraiser goes directly toward:
- Food, veterinary care, enrichment, and daily habitat maintenance for our otters
- Skilled staff who provide hands-on animal care and educational programs
- Keeping the museum available for school field trips, families, and community groups
- Preserving a vital educational and cultural resource in Worcester County
Your support at this moment will directly help stabilize our daily operations and ensure that the animals who depend on us are protected. Donating now—or sharing this campaign—helps prevent a crisis rather than respond to one.
Thank you for standing with us when it matters most.
