Welcome to our fundraising endeavour dedicated to supporting our community’s fight against a planning application for 63 houses on farmland east of Sidmouth Road, Ottery St Mary, ref 22/1973/MOUT.
The Gerway Action Group is a long standing collection of the community who have been successfully opposing the ill-conceived development of this greenfield site for over 15 years.
So far we have raised over 50% of the estimated costs ourselves. We have been and will continue to be in this for the long haul but as this escalates we need your help.
Your financial contributions will directly assist in covering the ongoing substantial and critical professional expenses necessary to continue to fight and uphold our collective vision for responsible and sustainable development in Ottery.
This development has been refused planning permission on numerous occasions with the overwhelming support of the local community. An appeal has now been lodged against the latest refusal by EDDC in October 2023 which we will continue to oppose.
The consequences of this development are:
- 63 extra houses on the least accessible side of town
- Increased through traffic to A30
- Child road safety issues walking to primary school
- An imposed substandard narrow footpath
- An imposed suboptimal alteration to Sidmouth Road
- A further drain on an already exhausted infrastructure
Should this proposal succeed it would set a precedent for developers to exploit the south side of Ottery with impunity.
