This spring and early summer, you may have heard of a wind energy project that was proposed to be developed in the area between Douglas and Panama, Nebraska. This industrial wind farm would straddle the county lines of Otoe and Lancaster County. The wind energy company has had significant difficulty getting buy-in with land owners in the vicinity partly due to the massive effort our community and volunteers have undertaken to get the word out and stand together against this proposal.

However, this fight hasn't been free. Recently, the core team of the Otoe County Wind Forum has chosen to move forward with Legal Representation to further aid in this fight. But, this wind energy company isn't giving up soon, and neither are we. Our group continues to fight for some basic and protective regulations to be updated and put in place to protect better the health, safety and well-being of Otoe and Lancaster County residents. Despite providing significant current research, sample county regulations, resident survey results, and a robust economic impact analysis, we understand there are still officials who believe minimal change to the current regulations will be sufficient.

These appointed and elected officials have turned a cold shoulder to what the community residents are asking for and instead have chosen to side with what the Wind Energy Company is promoting to keep this project afloat. We think it's time to add more power to our fight. After Attorney interviews, we have chosen to move forward with representation from a large Lincoln, NE firm familiar with the wind company's legal team and the need to demand regulations be built around community well-being. This legal team will represent ALL of us in Planning & Zoning meetings, County Commissioner meetings, and the Public Hearing process.

Like us, they want to win. We will win.
