Nezumi here. Again. We're in a bit of a crisis right now. Again.
Basically, our landlords have decided to sell the building. Originally they told us they'd give us adequate notice, and that if they were selling, they wouldn't be doing so until the end of the year. We were also told that they'd tell us at least 6 months ahead of time if they decided to sell early. Instead, after (an overall total of) 30 years of us living here, we were just handed a 90 notice of intention to sell.
We're a month to month tenancy, we have no recourse or backup. We had this move planned for the end of the year, but now the rug is literally being pulled from beneath us and we aren't prepared for this at all. We just started to get caught up after Chibi's surgeries and Bean's death, but it's only just. We can raise some of what we need to move in the short notice, but there's almost zero way to raise all of it in 90 days.
The landlords aren't too concerned, they basically told us to gamble on the fact that the new building owner will keep us all in as tenants, which, without going into too much detail, we already know won't happen. And because we are month to month and not a lease, our time is up whenever they sell this place, we won't be able to stop it from happening. At the least it's 90 days we have, and yes, it could be more, but it could also not be more. We can't gamble on a "what if" or "maybe". We'll be homeless if we can't raise enough to move. We don't have resources available to us (not for lack of trying) to help beyond this.
I've done the math and depending on where we manage to go, our rent will still end up being doubled, on the low end, to what we pay now. Most places here require first, last, deposits and various application fees. We also have to try and hire the cheapest movers we can to move a small apartment's worth of 30 years of our lives.
Chibi is legally disabled and her lifting limit x's her out from moving furniture. I'm almost 52, and while I'm not weak, I can't move shelves, beds, mattresses and a couch on my own so we will have to hire people, which adds to the cost. We don't have any extended family to fall back on, neither of us get any type of government assistance of any kind beyond medical for me, and because of the last nearly 11 years of ongoing medical problems, and 8 years of cancer related problems, what little savings we had in the beginning has long since been wiped out.
I'm putting this up out of desperation. I greatly dislike that our circumstances have come to this yet again. We actually had this all planned but in true landlord styles, we're being screwed so I'm hoping to, yet again, raise something towards what we need so we don't end up actually out on the streets.
It's a rounded estimate of first, last, deposit, fees and movers for a new place to live. Anything helps, please
