M. must leave for work, but she is torn. As a single mother, she must go to work to support her children. But she is from Ecuador and lives in Minneapolis. ICE is patrolling her street, breaking into neighbors’ houses and disappearing them. Should she leave her child home alone while she works? If she is taken at her job, who will let her child know what’s happened? What if ICE breaks down her door while she’s at work? Can she trust her boss to keep her safe if they come into her workplace?
M. has no friends or family in Minneapolis. I know her because our children attend school together. She has been so humble throughout this siege, never asking for help. But the truth is, she needs help. I am trying to raise enough money for her to stay home and care for her children so she doesn’t need to risk leaving the house to work. All funds raised will go directly toward paying her rent, bills, and groceries while she figures out her next move.
I understand the need is great right now. Anything you can contribute to keep M. and her kids safe is deeply appreciated.
