My mom, Karen, has bravely been battling cancer this year. Between chemotherapy, radiation, and countless doctor's appointments, she's been unable to work - and recently she was informed that her employer-provided health insurance has ended.

Karen won't be able to return to work until after a major surgery and months of recovery, which could take up to six more months. To keep her insurance through COBRA, she now needs to pay $1,000 per month out-of-pocket. Unfortunately, her short-term-disability income doesn't come close to covering this, let alone basic living costs or transportation to and from medical appointments.

Health coverage is absolutely essential right now - for lung scans, PET scans, surgery, lab work, and follow-up care that gives her the best chance of beating this cancer. She is too young to qualify for Medicare, and COBRA is her only option.

Anyone who knows Karen knows how generous she's always been - offering help, sharing meals, and opening her door to friends in need. Now, she's the one who needs a little help.
