Jose is a loving husband and father, a part of the Petworth community, and a Truesdell Elementary School parent. He is a dedicated father that I often saw at school drop-off as our sons are in the same PK-3 class.

On the morning of October 15, Jose walked from his front door to his car to go to work. Before he could even get in his vehicle, he was detained by federal agents. He has been held at a detention center in Virginia since then, and he urgently needs legal representation within the next 7 days to have a fighting chance of not being deported.

Nonprofit legal aid groups are backed up with long wait lists and cannot meet the current demand. Because of this, his wife needs to hire an attorney which is a significant expense.

You might know Jose and his family around the neighborhood or through the school. He and his wife are raising their wonderful three-year-old son and their daughter who just turned two. They have made a life and a home for themselves here.

This crisis has profoundly impacted them. Beyond the emotional toll of fear and uncertainty, they’re now grappling with urgent and unforeseen financial burdens—legal expenses, emergency costs, and essential household needs that have suddenly become overwhelming. We are raising money that goes directly to his wife; your support can make a meaningful difference during this critical time.
