Keep Jarrett Farm a Part of the Community Where Their Mission Statement is "Restoring Places Where God Restores People."
The plight of Jarrett Farm Resort was publicly revealed last week when KOTV News on 6 did a news story on it, announcing that after more than two years of court battles, the judge had ruled that Jarrett Farm would go to a sheriff’s sale on August 25th. One can view that news story at https://www.newson6.com/story/688404875dfcaa5325aa01e3/future-ownership-of-jarrett-farm-uncertain-as-public-auction-looms?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_KOTV_-_News_On_6 .
The ultimate goal of our efforts is to save Jarrett Farm from the sheriff’s sale, taking place in just a little over 3 weeks, on August 25th. The purpose of this Go Fund Me account is to provide Jarrett Farm’s current owners David and Amber Stewart with enough funds to explore every legal option available to them. They have three main options. One is working directly with the bank for a settlement, the second is to work with an investor to reorganize the business, and the third is to receive a miracle where their entire mortgage would be paid off. While I’m not banking on that third option, I do believe that miracles happen.
When many of us read the KOTV News on 6 post on Facebook, more than 1300 readers left an emoji ranging from sadness to caring. The Stewarts had an Adjustable Rate Mortgage with a balloon payment, but they were told it would remain steady at 5.35% for the first three years. They were not prepared for the letter that came at the end of the first year saying the interest rate was doubling the next month from 5.35% to 10.1%, which basically doubled their monthly mortgage payment from $7,800 to $14,600. They immediately consulted a lawyer who advised them that the loan documents did not meet legal standards. He advised them to contact the bank and try to renegotiate the loan. They did just that, but the bank has never met with or directly contacted the Stewarts, but only pursued legal action including foreclosure.
I keep using the word “I” in this narrative, but this is a group effort of friends who just think this is an injustice that could have happened to any of us. I have never met the Stewarts, but I can tell from their property reviews and talking with people who do know them that they are hard-working people who just want to make a difference in their community. They agreed to this fundraising effort only if God gets all the glory.
If everyone who reads their story could donate just a little (or as much as you can afford), we can help them pursue their options to keep Jarrett Farm Resort a part of the community. If we raise enough, we can help them pay off the loan by the deadline and keep their property that they have poured so much of their heart and soul into over the past 4 years.
We -- their friends, neighbors, community, or just people like me who believe that yes, this could have happened to us – need to come together to support this Green Country family who just want to provide a place for unforgettable events, rest, relaxation, and restoration that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
All donations will go to the Stewarts in saving Jarrett Farm. Donations can be made through this Go Fund Me site, or if uncomfortable with that, one can make donations through Chris Gailey American Legion Post 450 in Ochelata, Oklahoma, either by mailing directly to the post at PO Box 444, Ochelata OK 74051 or depositing directly into the Chris Gailey American Legion Post 450 account at any Arvest Bank, and the Post Adjutant Esther Coker will redirect the funds to the Stewarts.
There will be other fundraisers listed online that people can participate in, such as a yard sale, spaghetti dinner, a Pampered Chef open party where 45% of the sales will go to the Stewarts, and other fundraisers as we develop them, but since time is of the essence, this Go Fund Me is the fastest way to get the word out. Please share it with your friends.
