Help us Obi-Wan Kenobi… YOU are our only Hope!
Well, hello there…
We’ve found ourselves in a bit of a conundrum, and need the help of Friends, and Family, and anyone who the Force guides to this page that may want to help us acquire a film grade cosplay that has the potential to benefit numerous worthy causes. We are reaching out for your support to ensure this unique opportunity doesn't slip away from the Cosplay and Star Wars Community.
An Unprecedented Opportunity
Lucky has been presented with an extraordinary chance that is both exciting and time sensitive, but we are currently short of the necessary funds and racing against time to make it a reality. This is a singular opportunity to acquire something extraordinary that will further our charity work in collaboration with several costume groups we proudly partner with.
What We're Striving For
Our goal is to raise £4000 to acquire the Grummgar 10ft tall Guinness World Record Holding Star Wars Costume, complete with moulds, mannequin, and themed display. This remarkable costume is fully mobile, with moving hands and mouth, a voice changer box, and can be worn by anyone tall enough after training, or it can stand in a static themed display for photos. The acquisition of this costume will bolster our ability to support and enhance the charity work we do, making a substantial impact in various communities and Events. Each display will help raise money for a chosen or sponsored charity that we work with, as well as allowing it to remain part of the Star Wars Community as a whole.
About the Costume
Where to begin. Well, the amazing 10-foot-tall Star Wars creature costume pictured is Grummgar, who was a stationary puppet in the film The Force Awakens. This however is not that stationary puppet. This IS the Guinness World Record holding Fully Mobile stilt costume built and worn by Julian Checkley and his film and TV industry creature shop Order 66 in Ireland. It was built in 2016 for Celebration Europe to compete in the Costume contest where it won its division as well as grand Champion. It was then entered into Guiness book of World Records as the Tallest Star Wars Cosplay. The Costume is worth around £20,000 at the moment.
The history of friendship and this costume
Lucky and Julian met when they were both making costumes of the same Star Wars character the cyborg version of Darth Maul from the Clone Wars. Lucky learned of Julian and his ventures of a cyborg Darth Maul project through mutual friends in the Star Wars costume community, just as Julian learned of Lucky upon the community seeing Lucky’s 8 ½ foot tall Darth Maul Cyborg project completed. Upon seeing Lucky’s achievement, Julian gave credit where due, and was happy moving on to other projects.
Once the two gentlemen knew of one another’s work in the film industry they reached out and a mutual tongue-in-cheek rivalry and a friendship was formed out of mutual respect.
In 2015 Julian set his eyes on Grummgar and the Star Wars Celebration stage. Julian and another mutual friend had both reached out to Lucky asking him not to enter DMC into the Costume Contest as he had planned as they all would be running against one another. Lucky bowed out and both the other gentlemen went on to win their divisions, but Julian’s Grummgar went on to be the grand champion.
So when Julian’s Second, passion project, company took off he slowly stopped working with Order 66 and began closing up shop. When he came to selling Grummgar the first person he thought of that would be able to bring this cosplay to life was Lucky. Due to finances Lucky was hesitant to agree, but when he did reach out to Julian, who was in negotiations with someone in Dubai, he was surprised when Julian was willing to end those talks in order for the suit to be out and alive in the Star Wars Community.
Now we just need to make that a reality and make Julian’s wish come true.
