A Plea to Save Greenville’s Center for Family Violence Prevention

Our community is facing a heartbreaking reality: Greenville’s Center for Family Violence Prevention is in danger of closing—and with it, the loss of a safe house that provides a lifeline to victims and families who have nowhere else to turn.

The Center serves Pitt, Martin, and Washington Counties, making it a critical resource for survivors across our region. Right now, the organization is facing approximately $160,000 deficit and could be forced to close its doors within the next few months.

We cannot let that happen.

Imagine being a mother who has finally found the courage to escape an abusive home. Imagine having children who are frightened, confused, and looking to you for safety. You make the decision to leave—but you have no money, no safe place to stay, and nowhere to go.

Where do you turn?

For so many people in our community, the answer has been the Center for Family Violence Prevention.

The safe house isn't simply a building. It is a place where someone can sleep without being afraid. It is a place where a mother can hold her children and know they are safe. It is a place where survivors can begin rebuilding lives that have been shattered by fear and abuse.

The Center provides far more than emergency shelter. It connects survivors with resources and support, helps families navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and gives people something they desperately need when they are experiencing violence: a chance.

A chance to leave.

A chance to heal.

A chance to protect their children.

A chance to believe that their lives can be different.

When an organization like this disappears, the need doesn't disappear with it. The abuse doesn't stop. The danger doesn't disappear. The families who need help don't suddenly stop needing it.

Instead, people may be left with nowhere safe to go.

That is why we are asking Greenville, Pitt County, Martin County, Washington County, and the surrounding communities to come together right now.

This isn't about saving a building.

It's about saving a safe place.

It's about protecting mothers, fathers, children, and survivors who may be living through unimaginable circumstances.

It's about preserving a resource that our community may not fully appreciate until the day someone we love desperately needs it.

And that day could come for any family.

We are asking everyone who sees this plea to help—whether you can give $10, $25, $50, $100, or more. Every donation matters. Every dollar helps move this organization closer to financial stability and farther away from closing its doors.

If you can't donate, please share this message. Talk about the Center. Tell your friends, your family, your coworkers, your churches, your businesses, and your community organizations.

Because $160,000 is a tremendous amount of money for one organization to overcome alone.

But a community coming together can change everything.

Greenville has always been a community that takes care of its own.

Now, the Center for Family Violence Prevention needs us to take care of it.

Please don't wait until the safe house is closed to realize how much we needed it.

Please help save this organization before it's too late.

Donate. Share. Speak up. Get involved.

Because somewhere in our community, there may be a survivor tonight quietly wondering:

“Where can I go?”

Let's make sure the answer is still:

“There is a safe place. You are not alone. We are here for you."
