Keep Bowen Smiling
Hello! My name is Callie, I am a first time mom through this pandemic and man oh man what a time to be alive! Here is how my story goes…
I enjoyed pregnancy so much, feeling the movements, rubbing my belly, eating whatever the heck I wanted cause I was pregnant. I started to not feel so great around 28 weeks, had my appointment with my OB and she stated that I had high blood pressure, not knowing much about it I kinda brushed it off, thinking I just need to take it easy, not do so much around the house- boy was I wrong!
One night around 10pm I knew deep down something was wrong, he wasn’t moving, or kicking or anything. We rushed to the hospital and boom baby, emergency c-section at 29 weeks. He was SO small. It was so scary. He went over to a bigger children’s hospital and stayed for 2 months, those where some rough times let me tell you but that’s for a different story.
Fast forward to this year, March 2021. The appointment everyone has been waiting for. An appointment that would change everything. Bowen had a special appointment with a Dr. who specializes in kids with Cerebral Palsy. Now I don’t know much about the disability, but I do know that these kids are absolute fighters oh my. They will do whatever whenever to get what they want. Use all their strength to lift up the fork for dinner, or use every muscle to take their first step. For Bowen, who is now 15 months old, has never sat on his own, crawled, rolled over, walked.. he’s defiantly tried but his body just won’t let him. We do physio and do any kind of activity you can think of to get his muscles moving and not stay stiff.
We need help with equipment and accessories in order to help him do all those things that every baby should experience. It’s difficult for my to ask for help but I feel like I should speak out for other moms and families going through this and for people to understand the hurt that parents go through to get their child to do what every person should be able to do.. walk, run, sit, stand, dance!
