My name is Scott Varcadipane. I am the creator of Boris the skeleton here in Endicott, New York. Boris is my 12’ skeleton in my front yard. Boris has become a symbol of happiness, joy, and hope for many adults and children over the last 5 years. Here is our Facebook to see what Boris is about: https://www.facebook.com/share/14NqLVv3MQe/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Recently, while moving Boris and his girlfriend Gladys around the yard to get ready for our Christmas setup, there was a quick and unexpected wind gust of 40-50 mph. It blew over Boris and broke many parts of him, including his neck, rib cage, shoulder joints, head, and elbows. It also blew Gladys' arm joints enough to snap both at the shoulder joints. When Gladys' arms fell, her hand cracked and broke off a few fingers. They have been extremely taped and braced back together to try and get through the Christmas season. We are currently in the middle of a huge toy drive for Golisano Children's Hospital. I will show the links below as well. That’s why it is so important to me and many others to have him still standing during this time. We have received an overwhelming response to create a GoFundMe for a replacement Boris. In order to keep our tradition of fundraising for our community each holiday, our goal would be to get a replacement for Boris and, if any money is left, we would fix Gladys' arms as well. If for some reason we raise more than we need, it would be added to our Christmas toy drive this year for Golisano Children's Hospital.
Golisano's played a huge part in my recovery while in Upstate Medical Burn Unit after my electrical accident in 2020. My fiancée would go up to the top floor and look out onto the highway and just think about how our life had changed forever. She saw the traffic on the highway and realized life goes on and we needed to figure out a way to get through this and keep smiling. Mentally, Golisano became our mental savior, especially after 11 surgeries on my hands and 4 years off of work and being in therapy.
Thank you to everyone who has helped with our toy drive so far this season.
