Dear Be. Family and local San Diego community,
The time has come for us to ask for your help in a very real and scary way. As a person who has taken big risks and responsibilities to serve my community, asking that community for service in return does not come easily to me. Yet, the impacts of COVID-19 on our little locall studio have been so great, that I must indeed ask.
Recently, our landlord was generous enough to build us an Outdoor Pavilion space behind our studio to host classes in the fresh air with a capacity of 12 people (our Pre-COVID indoor capacity was 20). While we are so grateful for this space and have loved moving in it with you, we are in dire need of a covering from the elements, lighting and evening security cameras for this space if we want to continue offering classes that our community desperately needs now more than ever. The financial burden of this covering, lighting and security has fallen on our studio.
The truth is: Be. Move Dance Connect has never prioritized profit. We have always been about community and your donations for this covering, lighting and security will give us the funds needed to continue using Be. as a community space. Please, help us keep Be. open for those who need it most.
Funds needed for:
A UV sun covering to protect from heat, rain and other elements during classes. With the recent (and upcoming) heat waves of temperatures over 90 degrees, we cannot safely host classes without shade.
Lighting and security cameras so that we can safely host evening dance classes. As daylight savings approaches, this need intensifies.
The Honest Truth:
Without the maximization of this Outdoor Pavilion, we’re not sure if our studio will make it into 2021. The latest guidelines mandate that dance studios may only operate at 10% capacity until at least December 2020. For a studio like ours, 10% capacity means only one person may be in the studio at a time. Even if guidelines were increased to 25%, we would only legally be allowed to host 2.5% guests per class (not including instructors and reception staff). With those numbers, we’re not going to last much longer in this community without a covering and security for our outdoor area. We have not broken even financially since February. Your donation would help us keep a space where we can at least garner enough to stay on top of our bills.
This request is not just for us. It’s for those who walk into our doors and feel at home. It’s for the mothers who need a break from distance-learning with their school-age children. It’s for the instructors who need a place to work in these trying times. It’s for everyone who needs a space where they can heal. It’s for everyone who needs to reunite with their body through dance. It’s for everyone who needs accessible fitness that lifts the spirit while strengthening the body. It’s for those who feel downtrodden, lost and desperately need to laugh. Please, help us keep the dream of Be. alive and well for as long as possible.
Any donation size is helpful and so so deeply appreciated. If you cannot donate at all, we understand. Instead, please share this GoFundMe far and wide!
We vow to not use more than we need. Any extra funds from donations leftover after our needed additions to the Outdoor Pavilion will be donated on to the Black Mamas Matter Alliance.
Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. For your prayers, love, support, encouragement, donations and everything else you have given to keep this little Encinitas studio kicking.
