Keep a Talented Scout on Her Path

My name is Stephanie and I am the Committee Chairperson for Troop 362G in New York. I am turning to the public for help to cover the cost of Scouting for a young lady in our Troop whose parents have had a very difficult couple of years financially. I am looking to protect the family’s privacy, so I am not able to provide her personal information, but I am happy to tell her story. This Scout bridged over from Cub Scouts in 2022 and made it her goal to continue to work outside of her comfort zone and try new things in order to grow as a person. She exemplifies what it means to be a good Scout, and is truly always kind and helpful to everyone she meets. This Scout works hard in our organization to help her community and lead by example. She is also part of her school’s National Junior Honor Society, and is always looking for opportunities to learn. Last year her parents fell into especially difficult times and as a result the Troop loaned her the money to attend summer camp and cover costs for the year. Unfortunately, the family has suffered additional financial blows this year and now not only can she not repay the loan, but she does not have the money to continue in Scouting this year. This is a girl who wants to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout as she knows it will not only help her with valuable life skills, but might offer her college scholarship opportunities in the future so she can study biology. While our Troop does fundraise, it simply isn’t enough to cover the costs needed. If I am able to raise $2000 we could repay the loan to the troop, which is needed to update broken equipment, but more importantly, her family would have the means to register her again and send her to summer camp and the remaining events for the year, allowing her future fundraising efforts to go toward next year’s activities. Every dollar counts and no amount is too small. Thank you for anything you are able to give, and if you are able to share this with others who may be able to help, we can certainly reach this goal!
