Support a Kupuna’s Fight to Stay Rooted on Kaua‘i
Aloha, my name is Tiare, and I’m reaching out with humility and hope to ask for your support in helping my 75-year-old grandmother, who is facing displacement from our family home on the island of Kaua‘i—the only home she has ever known.
My grandmother has spent her life giving to others. She works for the local school, showing up every day with love and dedication, even as she grows older. But with summer approaching, she will go unpaid for the next two months. Adding to the hardship, her husband was recently laid off from his job—simply for work being “too slow.” Now, with no steady income, they are at risk of becoming unhoused.
She is doing everything she can—joining waitlists for housing and financial assistance—but on our island, the wait times can be upwards of two years. That is time she doesn’t have. She’s trying to hold on to her dignity, her stability, and her connection to the land and community she has lived in her entire life.
What makes this even harder for me is that I am on the mainland. I want nothing more than to be there for her in person—to provide a roof, a ride, or even a warm meal—but I’m unable to do that right now. I carry the weight of that every day. This fundraiser is the only way I can support her from where I am.
I’m asking for your kōkua (help) to raise funds that will go directly toward:
• Temporary housing or rent assistance
• Groceries and daily necessities
• Transportation and fees for applying to housing programs
• Emergency medical or living costs
This is a woman who has worked her whole life, who helped raise me and so many others. She deserves to age with peace, not fear. She deserves to feel safe in the only place she’s ever called home.
If you can give, please know that even a few dollars can make a meaningful difference. And if you can’t give, sharing this story is a powerful way to help, too. Your support is not just financial—it’s a reminder to her that she’s not alone, and that the love she’s shown this world is coming back to her.
Mahalo nui loa (thank you from the heart) for your time, your compassion, and your aloha.
With gratitude,
The Ohana Of Roxanne
