At the end of 2025 I had what I can only describe to be a mad epiphany… I will be running my first marathon. This is not a traditional road marathon, but a demanding route that crosses peat haggs and ascends Hard Rigg, Black Hill, and Kilhope Law aptly know as ‘The Allendale Challenge’ (Saturday 11 April 2026).
This endeavour will coincide with my fourth year participating in the Allendale Challenge, an event that fully earns its reputation as a true test of endurance. This year, I am choosing to extend my efforts in support of a cause that is extremely important to me and our wider rural community, the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team.
The Allendale Challenge represents the team’s largest annual fundraising event, providing essential financial support that enables them to continue their invaluable work throughout our rural and upland areas. The volunteers of Mountain Rescue dedicate their own time and expertise selflessly, responding to incidents day and night, 365 days a year, often in some of the most challenging terrain. Their professionalism and commitment are a constant source of admiration and they are the unsung heroes of our community.
As I prepare to take on this demanding route in April, I have decided to raise some further cash for this wonderful cause.
Any contribution you are able to make—no matter the size—will directly assist the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and help ensure they can continue their vital work. My generous employer will also match my fundraising efforts, so let’s dig deep and raise this exceptional team some extra funds.
