Kathy Xiong's Cancer Treatment & Recovery

It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of Kathy Xiong, a revered artist, songwriter, musician, and community leader, being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

Kathy is a pillar of strength, known for her selfless dedication to those in need and her unwavering support for anyone who seeks her assistance. She is the sole provider for her family, which includes her husband, Tony Yang, who is battling dialysis. Since the early 90s, she has shouldered the responsibility of caring for her disabled husband, nurturing her children, and ensuring they receive a proper education, all while juggling her numerous community commitments. As a wife, she tirelessly tends to her husband's needs, and as a mother, she goes above and beyond to educate and guide her children toward a brighter future. Additionally, Kathy works for the Sacramento Hmong New Year, where she holds the pivotal role of the president, utilizing her extensive musical expertise, business background and sales techniques to enrich her community. Notably, Kathy also manages the X-Pired Band, taking on the responsibility of organizing performances at various events and cities. Despite her love for her community, she often covers the band's travel and accommodation expenses out of her own pocket, as most events only offer minimal contributions, if any, to offset these costs.

Kathy's battle with this formidable illness will require her to take a medical leave from work for a minimum of 6 months to 1 year to undergo surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, ensuring that all cancer cells are eradicated.

The financial strain of her prolonged absence from work, coupled with the overwhelming medical expenses, presents a daunting challenge for Kathy and her family. As the sole provider for her household, this unforeseen burden is exacerbating an already difficult situation, especially with her husband, Tony Yang, also contending with his own health challenges.
