Kat and Pat's Refugee Protest Fines

In November 2016 Katherine Woskett and Patrick Holmes suspended themselves and a banner reading, ‘Close the bloody camps now. #justice4refugees’, from Parliament House in Canberra. Their action was a pivotal escalation point in the ongoing campaign WACA (Whistle-blowers, activists and citizens alliance) has been running for years to end the inhumane offshore and compulsory detention of refugees by the Australian Government.

Katherine is an arborist and rope access technician and Patrick is a rope access window cleaner; the pair used their unique skills and expertise to add another dynamic to WACA’s campaign, strengthening and elevating their message to gain national attention.

They were each arrested, taken to court and fined $1671 for these actions and the total of $3342 is due in late February, 2019.

If you believe that Australia’s refugee policy is unjust and should be resisted and you have any disposable income then please consider donating what you can to help pay these fines. Katherine and Patrick have given their time, skills, courage, anxiety and public reputations to this cause, give what you can spare to help them financially as well.
