A message from the Christa, co-founder of KAREfarm.org:
The decision to begin fundraising directly comes through the recent loss within our own circle. Mike Pfenning’s unwavering support of his wife Stephanie and myself began when we all met visiting our daughters at the cemetary on our first Christmas Eve. Our girls are resting about 50 feet apart.
The recent sudden loss of Mike’s son Nick has again touched the same family with child loss. It is shocking, the pain no less and wonder how any human is supposed to endure, again. I know many of the steps he and Steph have in front of them and my heart breaks.
I am amazed at the faithful work of a father in Mike in speaking with him. How he is so committed in honoring his son’s military service and giving spirit even in a time that could appear hopeless.
Mike, you helped plant seeds when there seemed to be darkness and honored the steps taken, regardless of size. You encouraged growth and celebrated wins regardless of size because you honored the journey in processing unthinkable loss. KAREfarm could never have happened without your support. I would love to create a space in the farm that can serve others the way Nick did. The fundraiser is budgeted to clear and build 3 new sites and host 15 families at the lake. My favorite memory is Nick teaching my twins how to fish- he took them step by step from baiting to catching and throwing back. He helped my children find joy even while grieving, and I hope we can do the same for you.
