Karata Family

Dear Family and Friends;

I humbly ask for help on behalf of my cousin Rana Othman & her husband Bakari Karata. Recently a tragic and unforeseen accident shook her family and has left them scrambling trying to deal with the situation. On Sept 7, her two year old son Zain was found unresponsive in the family home. Frantically Rana took her unresponsive son out screaming for help. Neighbors came and performed CPR. EMS came and continued. After nearly 30 minutes his heart and pulse came back. Zain was admitted to Bronson Children’s Hospital where he has been placed in the Peds ICU. He was able to breathe slightly on his own but is was life support for 6 days. Both mom and dad were presently active at the hospital being along side his bedside. Sadly little Zain tried and fought up God had a greater plan and sent him back home.

With only one income in the household and the future must be thought of. It’s hard enough to have to deal with a tragic situation like this - things like bills and mortgage is undeniable and must continue. Bills don’t stop because there has been a death. It’s so incredibly tragic to have to bury your child and once the last drop of dirt filled at his grave, you are left with your emotions and thoughts. Every parent should be able to grieve and process the change in household without having to put a strong face and worry about going back to work.

I am kindly asking for any donation that you can afford to help Rana’s family in order to be able grieve properly. Funds will be used for every day expenses while parents takes time off work to be able to cope and not have to worry about work for a few weeks. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated. It would mean so much to me if as a community we can present this to her and her family as a way of saying Zain is our baby too. His siblings ages 5 and 3 really need both parents home to try to cope and deal with their new “norm” once it’s all said and done as they were the ones to witness the tragedy.
