Kanyua Family URGENTLY needs help

Hi, my name is Trish and I am raising funds for a family who lives in our community in northern Kenya.

When Judith’s husband died from AIDS, she moved her and their eight children to a ¼ plot in the community near where David and I have a place in northern Kenya. They lived in a basic corrugated iron house with no foundation and Judith has been trying very hard to keep the youngest in school and food in their mouths. Her youngest child in the photo above is nine years old, you can see from the size of her the level of malnutrition this family has suffered from.

Having just gone through an epic four-year drought, feeding them all was a challenge on its own while she was dealing with her own sickness. This family has not had it easy, however recently their harsh situation has gotten drastically worse when the rains finally came and washed their makeshift home away. Now they are currently homeless on top of everything else.

Over the last few weeks, I reached out to Habitat for Humanity Kenya as they completely checked every box for the criteria (widow, sick with AIDS, extreme poverty), however, they do not have a team in this area sadly. Therefore we are trying to raise the money ourselves and have consulted a builder who gave us a good estimate to rebuild for them.

We are hoping to raise enough funds to help them rebuild a home. Our goal is to raise $5,000 which would cover the costs to build a corrugated three-room house with a foundation, an outhouse and get them essential household needs. The house would take approximately ten days to build. If we can lay down a foundation it offers a chance in the future for them to build something better on top of it and also is a lot more hygienic.
