Kangkiling e.V. is preparing for its very first public appearance at Berlin’s legendary Karneval der Kulturen street parade on June 8, 2025!
We’re bringing the spirit of Senegambia to the streets with a powerful mix of traditional and contemporary music, dance, costumes, and song — celebrating community, resistance, and resilience.
But we can’t do it without you!

Through the reflection of our cultural pride and our collective desires to promote dialogue and connection in a society that is often fragmented by difference.
Through music, dance, costumes, and singing, we will celebrate the beauty and complexity of African heritage while inviting others to participate in a shared human experience.
Our performance will center on the Kankurang masquerade tradition — a sacred and symbolic practice from the Mandinka people of the Senegambia region. The Kankurang figure represents spiritual guardianship, ancestral protection, and community cohesion. Historically, it has also embodied resistance to cultural erasure and colonial rule.
By presenting this tradition through a contemporary lens, we aim to honor its roots while making its message accessible to a broader audience.
The artistic presentation will feature a vibrant mix of traditional and modern Senegambian music, rhythmic drumming, dances, costumes, songs, and audience interaction — all curated to reflect the resilience, joy, and strength of our communities. It is both a celebration and an invitation: to witness, to learn, and to connect.
