Kalyn’s Birthday Marathon

Over the last couple of years I have had the opportunity to host a run with my friends on my birthday! With most of my 2020 season races cancelled I decided to make this one extra special. 

On July 23 2020, I will be running 100km to raise money for the Chilliwack Society Youth Services Programs . I was privileged to grow up with the support to believe I could do and become anything I wanted. I chose to support these services in hopes that theycan help kids that don’t have the support or resources to succeed believe that they can do anything too! 

 The Chilliwack Society Youth Services provides programs such as the Youth Recreation Program - where they are trying to build up a more robust hiking program for low-income family youth, underserved neighbourhoods and youth who don't get the chance to do this kind of stuff. This program provides alternative afterschool and summer/spring programs for underserved/at-risk/low-income youth in Chilliwack. They also provide Youth Support Programs where they offer mentorship and one-to-one support for youth to learn life-skills and be successful in their independence. Most of these youth lack positive adult role models, so this means they are in ministry care or completely disconnected from care. This program provides a platform for the youth to build their confidence and skills to get a leg up in life. They often lack healthy familial or any parental support, you'd be surprised how resilient these youth are despite all the diversity and trauma they have been through in their life.
