Kalsang’s Journey with Breast Cancer

Hi everyone, my name is Ren (Rinchen) Bhutia and I am creating this page to support my mom.

In 2017, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

Throughout the last 6 years, many forms of treatment has been experimented to prolong her life through this fight. Unfortunately, she has no more fight left and is undergoing hospice care.

My dad, my sister, and I have been doing everything we can since day one but we are now at the point where it’s not enough anymore.

A little bit about her 2023 journey 

In July of 2023, my mom was offered a treatment but was told that there weren’t many more viable treatments left afterwards and that she may soon have to decide what she wants to do moving forward (more experimental treatment or palliative care).

The treatment seemed to work in the beginning but very quickly deteriorated her body at a rapid rate.

On September 8th, my mom was rushed to the ER due to complications. At that point, the doctors decided she had to be admitted into extended stay.

On September 9th while she was hospitalized, her oncologist came to visit to see how she was doing. After a very long and tough conversation, we were told that whether she pursued new treatment or not, her life expectancy would be 3 months or less.

On September 10th, my mom decided to pursue hospice care, knowing that her life expectancy was not what we wished and she just wanted to be home with her family and friends.
