Our Huakaʻi
We are called to Aotearoa (New Zealand) to build community, connection, and solidarity with our Pasifika siblings as artists and space-holders. Our acceptance into the Māoriland Film Festival is a hōʻailona that it is time for us to go.

We have individual and personal sponsorships and loans for our airfare and appreciate the community support to make the rest possible!

As two māhū navigating chronic injury/illness + pain + poverty + recent personal & family crises, this trip would not be possible on our own.

Funding will go towards supporting our food, transportation, lodging, and other basic needs (e.g. medicine, toiletries, COVID tests & masks, and additional necessities).

We are grateful for the community support to nurture our dreams – to be able to briefly shift our focus from day-to-day survival to a space of connection & celebration alongside our Māori and Pasifika ʻohana.

We hope to share culture, ʻike, and aloha together while gathering in Ōtaki (and beyond)-- and always (always) back home again.

Our Work
Pumehana directed & produced the short documentary "Ka ʻĀʻumeʻume (Navigating Home)," featuring the moʻolelo of six Kānaka ʻŌiwi in and out of diaspora.
The film will have its Aotearoa (New Zealand) premiere in Ōtaki on March 24th, the closing night of Māoriland! Learn more about Pumehana and their work here.

Kaliko participated and is featured in Pumehana's film, alongside an additional Kānaka directed & produced, ʻāina-based short film screening in the festival: "Kai Haliʻa (Sea of Memory)” written, directed, and produced by Angelique Kalani Axelrode.
