Kaielle Tiana Johnson Funeral

On February 19, 2018 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Kaielle Tiana Johnson. Kaielle was called home to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ on April 6, 2018 only being 45 days old. She was diagnosed with a rare disorder called Trisomy 18 when I was 20 weeks pregnant. Doctors attempted to persuade us to terminate the pregnancy stating that I may miscarry, or she will be stillborn. The perinatologist also went on to tell us that she would be born with multiple abnormalities and that having Trisomy 18 made her INCOMPATIBLE with life. Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome, is a condition which is caused by a error in cell division, known as meiotic disjunction. When this happens, instead of the normal pair, an extra chromosome 18 results in the developing baby and disrupts the normal pattern of development in significant ways that can be life-threatening, even before birth. A Trisomy 18 error occurs in about 1 out of every 2500 pregnancies in the United States and 1 in 6000 live births. The numbers of total births is much higher because it includes significant numbers of stillbirths that occur in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy. Despite her diagnosis I continued with my pregnancy we never allowed what the doctor said to control our decisions about our  baby. We did not want to give up on her we were going to put her destiny in God’s hands and were going to love her regardless and we did. The pregnancy was rough that I must agree I had to resign my position at work and her dad had to take a break from school and work two jobs  to become the main provider for us because I had preeclampsia (high blood pressure), polyhydramnios(excessive amniotic fluid surrounding the baby) staying home was the only way to keep our baby and I safe. It was hard dealing with it all, but we knew that we had to remain strong through all the trials and tribulations so we continued  to fight until our baby decided she was ready to come. I was initially due on March 17, 2018 but unfortunately on February 16th at my perinatal appointment it was discovered that the diastolic flow in the umbilical cord was absent. I immediately went to the hospital and was monitored until February 19th her heart rate began to drop I was rushed in to an emergency c-section. Kaielle was born with respiratory distress and had to be intubated and rush to the NICU for futher care. In the NICU doctors ran test to confirm her Trisomy 18 and also found a VSD. Kaielle was a fighter and she battled against the odds she fought until her last breath in our arms.
