Kaia's Blue Missions Sanitation Trip 2024

Hi my name is Kaia Lopez, a passionate and motivated high school sophomore. I am embarking on a life-changing journey to the Dominican Republic with the Blue Mission organization. This incredible opportunity allows me to contribute to a sanitation project that will positively impact communities in need.

During this week-long adventure, I will be working with a team to improve sanitation facilities by actively building ventilated pit latrines. This includes mixing cement, cutting wood, and installing metal walls for the latrines. I will also be able to experience firsthand what it is like to live in this community and what it’s like to live without daily luxuries such as electricity, water, toilets, and the internet.

Participating in this mission also presents a unique opportunity for personal growth and leadership development. As a high school sophomore, I recognize the significance of acquiring leadership skills early on. This experience will challenge me to step out of my comfort zone, work collaboratively with diverse team members, and take on responsibilities that will undoubtedly contribute to my growth as a leader.
