Prior to his passing, Kade was determined to give back. He was incredibly proud of the fundraising we had done for The Mental Shift, and wanted to do the same. He held his hands up and said he could never run a marathon, but he could do a sponsored walk. Specifically, he wanted to do the Scarborough to Whitby cinder track walk. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do on Saturday 1st August 2026. For him, and for everyone else who may be struggling in silence.
The Mental Shift is a community interest company based in the North East, dedicated to supporting young men with their mental health through mentoring, physical activity, and early intervention programmes. We chose to support The Mental Shift because they worked with my Auntie following the passing of my cousin, Zak, and you can genuinely see the difference they are making at a local level. I truly believe that if organisations like The Mental Shift had nationwide reach, the impact could be life changing for so many people. Their programmes work. They are changing lives.
Nothing we do will bring Kade back, and that brings indescribable pain every single day. There is no way to turn back the clock or undo what has happened. But what we can do is fight to stop other families from experiencing this same heartbreak.
It won’t change overnight, and it may never disappear completely, but we can fight for better support, fight for change, and fight to make sure people get the help they truly need. The Mental Shift is doing exactly that.
We would love as many people as possible to join us. Whether you want to walk the entire route, half of it, or just a few hundred meters, let’s do this for Kade.
