Hi, my name is Frey, Support Kacey May’s Recovery After a Life-Changing road traffic incident.
My beautiful niece, aged 21, was involved in a devastating roat traffic incident on the 13/04/26. She was knocked off her motorbike by a car, and then her body was driven over. The driver is currently under investigation for dangerous driving.
Kacey spent 11 day’s in a critical care unit where she was in an induced coma for life-threatening injuries where it was touch and go for the first 48 hours. Since coming off the ventilator and becoming more stable, she has been transferred to a trauma unit where she will continue her healing and rehabilitation journey. Kacey still has a long and painful road to recovery, and we don’t know what level of needs she will have when she comes out of the hospital. She has already had four surgeries and will possibly need further surgeries.
Kacey’s injuries are extensive poly trauma. injuries identified on trauma CT:
• Grade 4/5 liver laceration.
• Grade 3 spleen laceration.
•Displaced sternal body fracture.
• Unstable burst fracture of the L1 spine.
• Fractures to both the superior and inferior pubic rami (pelvis).
• Left anterior hip dislocation (native hip). •S1 spinal fracture.
• Fractures of the T6, T7, and L5 spinous processes.
• Bilateral posterior lower rib fractures. •Bilateral lung contusions.
• Two small pneumothoraces.
• Two hemothoraxes.
• Large laceration and de gloving injury to the left thigh.
• Laceration to the left knee.
Laceration to the left elbow.
• Abbrasion to the lower back.
At the scene of the road traffic incident Kacey’s lungs had collapsed, It was only by sheer luck that my sister arrived, she was able to quickly assess the severity of the situation and call an ambulance. With the correct level of urgency. Her actions ensured that the right emergency care was dispatched—helping to save Kacey’s life. At the scene of the incident, Kacey had to have chest drains put in, and she had to have blood transfusions 10 pints in total due to internal bleeding. We thank the emergency service for their amazing work that saved kaceys life that evening. We will eventually get round to thanking you all personally. Any money raised that isn't used by kacey will be donated to the air ambulance.
Kacey now faces a long and challenging road to recovery. We are raising funds to help support the family during her hospital stay and to cover the ongoing costs she will face once she is discharged. This includes specialist care equipment and necessary adaptations to her living environment to help her regain as much independence as possible. Her mum is spending every moment she can by her side and is having to stay in a hotel to ensure she is close to kacey.
Our kacey is an amazing person inside and out, and she is fun-loving and full of life. She enjoys helping other people and has such a kind and nurturing nature she will literally help anyone. She is clever and quirky and has such a good personality and sense of humour. She has cracked a fair few jokes since coming off the ventilator even though she's in immense pain. Kacey loves her brother, family, and her friends. She loves animals and misses her pets. Kacey also loves her job and is devastated that any future chronic pain and disability might prevent her from working again.
Since coming of the ventilator, Kacey has now shown interest in learning to drive a car and gaining her independence again when out of hospital . After this life-changing event, she has expressed that she loves motorbikes and the freedom it gives her. However, she will never ride a motorbike again because it's not worth death, disability and pain. We hope to support her in achieving that goal of independence through learning to drive when she is able.
We still see Kacey as our baby. Even though she's a young adult, she only turned 21 this month. We are all heartbroken at what she's gone through and we want the best for her. She has been so brave during this awful event.
We are asking, if you are able, to please support Kacey during this incredibly difficult time. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards her recovery, specialist equipment and easing the financial burden on her family. Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support—it truly means everything.
