Kabul to Amsterdam Walk - Solidarity Fundraiser

This year, for the month of April 2022, I would like to invite friends and family to join me in solidarity with people on the move.

Together I want to invite you to join me in a combined walk (run/bike/dance/wheel) for the distance from Kabul to Amsterdam with the goal of raising €1 per kilometre= €6308 to be shared between three areas:

1) support for a women human rights defender who survived a suicide bombing, to pay for her safe housing for several months while we wait for her application to a safe new home to come through,

2) funds to support Josoor International Solidarity, a self-governed non-profit organisation who provides emergency relief to those who experience violence at the EU borders,

3) donation for Fenix Humanitarian Legal Aid, an NGO providing holistic legal aid to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece. In this way, our movement in solidarity with those on the move will raise funds for those all along the migration journey from Kabul to the EU.

I am making myself a goal of walking/running 330km from now until 1 May 2022 but your goal can be moving 1 km and donating €1 - whatever feels right for you! Involve your kids, pets, friends and family, any bit helps. Additionally, April is my birthday month, so you could also just donate directly and call it a gift.

You can join by:

1) donating here on GoFundMe and/or

2) committing to contribute your kilometers (through this google form ) and asking others to donate €1 (or dollar/pound etc) per km you walk/run/bike/wheel,

and/or

3) or donating DIRECTLY to Josoor or Fenix 's websites and sending me a screenshot of your donation through this form .

**BONUS**: If you sign up to be a monthly donor to either Fenix or Josoor, I will match your donation for the first month up to a combined total of €1000 - this means if you become a monthly donor with either organisation for €10 per month, your first monthly donation will be €20, or if you sign up for €50, I will match you with €50. Why do I want to raise funds for these three areas?

Since April 2020 I have been supporting the work of Fenix Humanitarian Legal Aid providing support to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece. This has led me to other like-mind organisations who offer legal aid, medical care, food and safe housing to refugees, asylum seekers and people (especially young women) who are at-risk.

Globally, financial support for refugees and asylum seekers often follows crisis after crisis, which leaves people in protracted situations feeling forgotten and increases the need for resources. This is true for the many people in countries facing massive food insecurity, for asylum seekers in Turkey--the country which hosts the world's largest refugee population-- and for those in Greece where the right to seek asylum has been severely restricted. At the same time, Europe's borders have become even more deadly as the EU violently tries to prevent refugees from arriving in Europe. Those who do manage to arrive in Europe face a hostile and confusing asylum process and dehumanising conditions while detained in camps.

The most powerful response to Fortress Europe's oppressive border regime is a solidarity movement of supporters who demonstrate that refugees, no matter where they come from, are welcome! And with that donations directly to those who are supporting people on the move.
